Announcements September 9th, 2013

Hello Sisters!

Here is the September Visiting Teaching message. If you would like an electronic copy of the Sister to Sister Newsletter, please leave a comment or email Sister Cox. Since the Newsletter contains personal contact information it is not posted on this public blog.

Here are some additional announcements:

THIS SATURDAY, Sept. 14th, is the Tri-Ward Service Project: McDowell Creek Park Cleanup. We are meeting at the park at 9:00AM to cleanup the trails. Please bring your own tools (gloves, loppers, etc).

ALSO THIS SATURDAY, Sept. 14th, is a Baby Shower for Heather, Sister Van Leuven's daughter. Heather is expecting a baby BOY. She has enough clothes, but needs lots of diapers and wipes. The shower is at 6:30PM at Sister Gabell's house. CORRECTION: The location of the shower has been changed to be at the church in the Relief Society room.

Sunday, Sept. 15th: Stake Youth Standards Night. 7:00PM at the Stake Center in Albany. For all mutual aged youth and their parents.

Tuesday, Sept. 17th: TWO THINGS...
FIRST, at 6:00PM Compassionate Service POWER HOUR will resume! Come to participate in a service project and get that warm fuzzy feeling. If you have any questions about what we'll be doing for the service project, contact Sister Herb.
THEN, stick around because at 7:00PM ENRICHMENT begins, and this month it's all about JOURNALING! Something we all need to work on, I'm sure... And if not, then PLEASE come and give the rest of us some pointers! ;) If you already have a journal that could use some pizzazz, bring it to decorate! If not, never fear, we will provide some for you to decorate and take home. We'll have some decorating supplies, but bring whatever you like to make your journal unique. If you would like to decorate a Journal Jar as well, then just bring an empty jar (we'll provide the prompts). The activity is potluck cookies. And last but not least, don't forget to invite those you visit teach!

Crafts Enrichment Group (usually meets the 3rd Thursday of each month) MAY BE RESCHEDULED due to both Enrichment and the Ward Emergency Preparedness Dinner being that same week. Stay tuned for more info!

Friday, Sept. 20th 6:00PM
"COOKING WITHOUT ELECTRICITY" WARD POT LUCK DINNER and EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS DEMONSTRATION
Brother and Sister Nelson are looking for volunteers to demonstrate cooking without electricity (such as solar, campfire, rocket stoves, and other methods). If you have any skills or knowledge in these areas, please let them know. Hopefully, the weather will be nice enough to have a campfire outside to demonstrate that method. A sign-up sheet for bringing food items for the pot luck supper will go around on Sunday. There are still many spaces to fill!!
The menu is chili/soup, crackers, cornbread, cheese, onions, tomatoes, salsa and other fixin’s. Please let them know if you would be able to bring any of these items.

Saturday, Sept. 28th:
Stake Relief Society event in conjunction with the Relief Society General Broadcast. At the Lebanon Stake Center in Albany.
We will meet in the Chapel at 3 pm, have two classes and then the broadcast at 5 pm. A light dinner and dessert will be served afterwards. There will be a room set aside for sisters who prefer to listen to the broadcast in Spanish. Sunday dress is appropriate. Please let your Relief Society president know if you will need childcare. You are welcome to attend all or part of the event.

Sister Probert is still in rehab from her knee surgery and will be until Friday. A visit would be MUCH appreciated!

The Relief Society Presidency has issued a challenge to invited one or more of the sisters you visit teach to attend one of the ward or Relief Society events this month (such as Enrichment or the General Relief Society Broadcast).

Ward Activity: June 22nd, 2013

Since the whole ward was invited, including members of the Relief Society, I decided that the ward activity qualifies as "bloggable". It was held at the Adam's ranch on a beautiful Saturday evening.

There were around 100 people in attendance.

The activity was in honor of our Veterans, from all branches of the Military.

Grillin' up some delicious hamburgers and hot dogs.

The color guard, comprised of some of the Veterans from our ward.

Raising the colors.

A quartet singing the National Anthem. Apparently while they were singing a bald eagle swooped down just behind the flag. What an inspiring moment, I only wish I had caught it on camera!

The Pledge of Allegiance. I was multi-tasking.

Brother Miller was throwing children into the lake. And when you throw kids into the lake, you're bound to get pushed in yourself. This is him chasing Brother Kluttz after justice was served. It was pretty hilarious.

Brother Kluttz didn't hide for long.

Brother Kluttz won.

And of course Brother Miller didn't learn his lesson and ended up in the lake several more times. It was fun for everyone. :)

Retiring the colors. No Veterans this time (guess they all went home).

Getting some shooting in before dusk.

This year's Veterans barbecue was another success! Of course, you know it's always going to be a good time at the Adam's ranch. Thank you to all who helped make this activity a blast!

Sewing Enrichment Group: June 20th, 2013

Our first Sewing Enrichment Group Meeting was excellent!

Sister Scofield taught us how to make these adorable aprons:

 Great turnout!

There were even a few Young Women! Always a pleasure to have them join us.

 Laying out the pattern.

 Cutting.

 Some used their own pattern.

Sewing away!

Proven teaching methods.

Ironing.

Sewing is fun!

Most sisters didn't finish their apron, so we'll most likely have another Sewing Enrichment Group Meeting in July. More information on that to come. Thanks to all who came and made this activity a success!

Enrichment June 2013: Soap Making

We've done it again! That's right, we had another EXCELLENT Enrichment activity this month! Who knew that could happen twice in a row? ;)

We started off strong with our Compassionate Service (Power) Hour. Those who came got to help tie a baby quilt.

Don't forget that Compassionate Service Hour is always the hour before Enrichment starts each month.

This month's Enrichment activity was all about that slippery good stuff: SOAP.

First, we learned how to make powdered laundry and dishwasher detergents from Sister Herb.

Next, Sister Herb (not to be confused with the previously mentioned Sister Herb) gave a presentation on how to make "melt and pour" bar soap.

Examples of many different types of soap Sister Herb has made.

Many resources and supplies are available for this provident hobby. Sister Herb mentioned GloryBee as one good place to find all the ingredients you need.

"Melt and Pour" soap is made by first melting a soap base.

Oil up the mold so the bars are easy to remove when cool.

Getting fancy: pouring a layer of clear soap first.

Getting fancier: add in essential oils, dyes, and even dried flowers!

These lavender bars of soap smell heavenly!

Sister Herb made enough bars for everyone in attendance to have one, so if you haven't received yours yet, come find me on Sunday!

She also prepared a handout, but forgot it at home. I will try to get the information from her and post it on this blog, along with the recipes for the laundry and dishwasher detergents. So check back soon!

Stake Relief Society Activity:
Relief Society Sisters and Laurels!
Please come to the Stake Relief Society Celebration of Service on June 29 from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm at the Stake Center.  The purpose of this Celebration is for everyone to bring a member of the community to the Church whom we have been serving. All of us do some kind of service either as individuals or groups. It’s time to celebrate with our neighbors! Some people might bring a representative from a food bank, or a representative from an organization, or a representative from a school in which they volunteer, or a neighbor they have built fences with, etc. It's just a way to celebrate what we all do and invite a member of the community to come to the Church and celebrate with us. We are encouraging people to be liberal in their thinking of service.

Since we have no way of knowing how many will attend, we are asking people to bring a dessert or a side dish to share. If you can't think of a person to bring from the community please bring yourself! This is a celebration!!!

If you need childcare, we need to know, as soon as possible, so we can provide appropriate supervision. Please tell your Relief Society President how many children you will be bringing.
****

Also, and big welcome to the newest member of our Relief Society, Sister Noall! :)

Love,

The Snow Peak Relief Society Presidency
